I primarily use hands on and guided techniques to reprogram and balance your body, and give you simple exercises to do at home to compliment your treatment.
I do not have a gym or lots of fancy equipment. If you need this for your recovery, I can refer you to a regular Physical Therapist. While there are many “gadgets” on the market made to free up the practitioners’ time and supposedly affect tissue change in the body, I have found that nothing can compare to allowing the body to do what it was designed to do: heal itself and move efficiently. Removing the barriers to the body’s normal function allows it to take care of itself. Using various electronic devices, while they “may” affect tissue change, does not affect the reason for the tissue irritation in the first place and will not make permanent changes. I like to address the cause of problems, not the symptoms. Addressing the cause can result in rapid, dramatic changes as opposed to the body “adjusting” to improper function. Correcting function allows the body to operate smoothly and does not require hours of stretching and exercises to support the body in its inefficient mode. My goal is to get you back on track so you can do your thing.
With over 30 years of experience in tuning bodies, I have a variety of techniques and expertise to draw from to address your specific problem: Athletic Training, Traditional Physical Therapy, Reiki and Pranic Healing (energy work), Sole Supports custom foot orthotics, Primal Reflex Release TechniqueTM (PRRT), and Autonomic Nervous System Resetting. Due to it’s amazing results, my primary focus at Sunrise Physical Therapy, LLC is on PPRT and Autonomic Nervous System Resetting, with bits of energy work and other techniques thrown in as needed. Athletic Training: My background in Athletic Training (Certified Athletic Trainer), coaching, and competitive athletics gives’ me a thorough understanding of the principles and implementation of strength training, injury identification and management, stretching, conditioning, taping, and sport/activity specific rehabilitation.
Regular Physical Therapy: My work in the outpatient physical therapy setting for over 26 years combined with extensive continuing education in all aspects of physical therapy (over 1,000 hours) provides me with exceptional skills to help restore normal mobility and function. The specific techniques used are too many to list, but these skills include joint and soft tissue mobilization, various forms of manual therapy, stretching, strengthening, taping, and rehabilitating everything from elite athletes to 102 year olds.
Reiki and Pranic Healing: These are techniques that work on the body’s energy field aimed at cleaning the energy field, restoring the natural energy flow, and removing blocks that may be contributing to physical problems.
Sole Support Custom foot orthotics: Having worked with orthotics for over 25 years, the control and biomechanical correction these orthotics afford are unparalled in the industry. My extensive interest, education, and study of foot mechanics has made me the local “go to person” for foot alignment problems in the Durango area. Correct control of the foot takes much more then just making a cast and sending it into the lab. I have many people who walk in with a bag full of orthotics that don’t work, and are amazed with the results they get from me. Primal Reflex Release TechniqueTM (PRRT). This is a revolutionary new technique aimed at rebalancing the body’s nervous system and resetting muscles that may be upregulated. This can have an incredible effect on pain and movement problems. I am one of only 170 in the world trained at the Advanced Practitioner Level in this treatment method, and I have to say it has completely changed the way I look at injuries, function, and the way I practice. Associative Awareness Technique (AAT): This amazing technique rebalances the Autonomic Nervous System so the fight/flight/freeze (stress) response and the relaxation response are more in balance. Did you know that the American Medical Association sites stress as a causative factor is over 90% of ALL medical diagnoses? An overactive stress response can affect the entire body, and is a major reason so many treatments do not work with chronic pain/conditions. Tension/Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE): Dr. David Berceli, Ph.D. was looking for an easy way to relieve stress and trauma for humanity. In studying other mammals, he noted that every mammal except for humans has a natural way of relieving tension that is elicited during the fight/flight/freeze response. He discovered that humans have this capacity as well, only we have used our newer cognitive brain to subdue it. He developed a technique that elicits neurogenic tremors in the human body. This is something that is encoded in our DNA, is available for all of us to tap into, and is something we can do ourselves. The results in relieving chronic tension, trauma, and trapped physical and emotional patterns in the body can be amazing. It is another excellent way to help re-balance the Autonomic Nervous System. Dr. Berceli has taught this in over 35 countries to millions of people, and is expanding this program to the United States. It has been taught to thousands of soldiers in the military as a way of preventing/addressing PTSD. I am one of the few certified trainers in the region teaching and facilitating this procedure.
